The first Double-A games of the season are being held this weekend in Hudson Kiwanis Baseball. Patrick Gallegos is the Double-A commissioner, meaning he is overseeing the 7 and 8-year-old league. Gallegos and his wife Tara have six children and three of them participated in Hudson Kiwanis Baseball last season.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to give back to a program that our family has enjoyed for years,” said Gallegos.
Double-A is the coach pitch level and historically has had the most participants of any single age group in the Kiwanis Baseball program. It is also the youngest age group at which scores and standings are recorded and a league champion is crowned at the end of the season.
“This type of competition is new to many of the players, coaches and parents at this age level,” explained Gallegos. “Our goal is to create a fair and fun experience with the opportunity to improve for everyone involved.”
Registration is underway for the 44th season of Hudson Kiwanis Baseball, which serves hundreds of youth annually between the ages of 5 and 18. Teams are formed annually in Mid-March and the season runs through early July.
